When worry becomes hard to switch off

Anxiety can affect your thoughts, your body, and your everyday routines. Persistent worry, feeling on edge, trouble relaxing, and irritability can all be reasons to talk with a professional. You do not have to wait until things feel unmanageable.

What your GAD-7 score means

The GAD-7 adds seven responses for a total between 0 and 21. Scores of 0–4 fall in the minimal range, 5–9 mild, 10–14 moderate, and 15–21 severe. These ranges describe symptoms reported over two weeks. They do not establish a diagnosis or explain why those symptoms are happening.

What happens in an anxiety evaluation?

A professional can ask about when your symptoms started, what situations bring them on, and how they affect sleep, relationships, and daily activities. They may also consider medications, substance use, and physical health. A screening result can help start that conversation; it is only one part of the picture.

A next step that fits your life

You can begin with a primary care appointment or a mental health professional. Treatment options can include psychotherapy, medication, or a combination, depending on your situation and preferences. If video care would make appointments easier, ask a provider whether it is available where you live.
